About this challenge
Every superhero started as a doodle. This month, students create their very own comic strip — a hero, a villain or a problem, and a story told across a handful of panels. No drawing skill required; imagination does the heavy lifting.
Comics sneak in real skills: sequencing, dialogue, pacing and visual storytelling. Timed with National Comic Book Day, it's the most fun students will have "writing" all year.
Your mission, step by step
1
Create your character
Who are they? What do they want? What's in their way?
2
Plot the beats
Beginning, twist and ending — sketch the story on paper first.
3
Draw your panels
Make a strip of 4–8 panels. Stick figures and speech bubbles are perfect.
4
Scan & submit
Photograph or scan your comic and upload before the 28th.
